Kathleen Theresa
Kathleen Theresa Ramsey (Kate) is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who grew up in a very small midwestern town. Destined for adventure, Ramsey felt called to run around from place to place performing music whenever and however possible, all the while exploring various artistic passions and inner worlds.
Coming from a rather rocky upbringing, instilled with a disdain for small-town narrow-mindedness, and having little financial and emotional resources in her youth are exactly what drove her to become resourceful and self-reliant to pursue her artistic ambitions and dreams. Best described as idiosyncratic, vulnerable, and unabashedly honest, she is a well-traveled artist who expresses the oddities, woes, and euphoria of life through her music.
Ramsey composes and performs improvisations that she refers to as “free music" that have few restraints or pre-conceived notions with a focus on layering textures and feelings as they come through. Creative inspiration includes the likes of Bach, Alice Coltrane, Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, Howlin Wolf, Lonnie Liston Smith, Bill Evans, Allan Holdsworth, Sonny Sharrock, Robert Fripp, Miles Davis, Matthew Halsall, Nils Frahm, Chihei Hatakeyama, John Abercrombie, Terje Rypdal, Steve Roach, et cetera.
THE ROSE HAZE
During her formative years as a songwriter, Ramsey collaborated with esteemed musicians and mentors Stan Smith and Lisa Bella Donna to record and perform The Rose Haze’s first two albums which embody a dark and driving vulnerable sensibility ultimately helping her to escape the throes of deep depressions and anxieties.
In 2019, after a long spiritual renewal on Kaua’i, she moved to California and met Ruben Gonzales. His textural guitar work and composition style melded shoegaze and noise rock with Ramsey’s progressive garage, psych, and synth-pop giving The Rose Haze a unique vast sound of its own. Together they composed for The Rose Haze from 2019 until his sudden and very tragic death on January 31, 2024.
BEACH HEX
Throughout her career, Ramsey has collaborated off and on for various projects and musical moments with cellist Kristen Marie. Their project BEACH HEX is focused on healing others with sound and evoking divine femininity through their expressions mainly comprised of live cello and harp over delicately designed synth-wave overtones, ambient undertones, and vaporwave beats.
